South African sprinter Caster Semenya was under fire in August of 2009 after several questioned her gender. A August 25, 2009, report stated that her levels of testosterone were very high, more than three times what is normally expected in a female.Semenya made headlines earlier in the month after breaking her own record for the 800m race by more than seven seconds. She went on to win the 800m race at the World Championships with a time of 1:55.45.
